The
Year

Year for God is an opportunity for Christian mission training and experience in a different country and culture.

Preparation week

1 week in Derby, UK

Living in a new culture can be both exciting and stretching. The YFG preparation week is designed to help equip you as well as possible for your year overseas. Topics covered include culture, culture shock, cultural acclimatisation, looking after your health, and relationships with other mission workers, with God, and with home. It is also a great time to get to know others going to your location and to personally prepare for the year.

DTS

5 months on location

The DTS (Discipleship Training School) is YWAM’s foundational course comprising of a 3 month lecture phase followed by a 2 month outreach.

YFG partners with YWAM centres on location where both the DTS and placement take place. Each location offers a slightly different flavour of training and ministry.

The lecture phase includes teaching on topics such as hearing God’s voice, the nature and character of God, worship, intercession and world mission.

The outreach phase may be in your chosen location or another country. This is where you get to put what you have learnt into practice by sharing your faith with others. Every outreach is different, and you could find yourself working with local churches, serving the poor and needy, or even preaching and teaching - a mixture of some or all of these is the most likely scenario.

What you learn on the DTS will stay with you for a lifetime of following Jesus as it will strengthen your faith and equip you for Christian service. You will experience God move in you and through you. You will be learning and working alongside nationals from the country you have travelled to, as well as people from different cultures.

Placement

5 months on location

After the DTS, the Placement phase is where you get first-hand experience of missionary life as you serve alongside long-term workers. There will be a variety of projects to choose from, such as relief and development, teaching English, healthcare, youth and children’s work. There is something for everyone and each location has different ministry options.
